About Women's Sports Review

For the first time in my professional career, I’m not working in sports but I’ve still got thoughts, ideas and opinions to share.  I’ll be providing in-depth analysis and commentary on all aspects of women’s sports: the competition, the business, social issues, and digital experiences & technology.

If you subscribe today, you'll get full access to the website as well as email newsletters about new content when it's available.

Cadence of Posts / Newsletters

I’ll likely not be publishing on a regular cadence, apologies.  I’ll be writing - and going deep - when I can.

A Bit About Me (Karyn Lush)

I worked in soccer for a decade:

  • Managing the league and team websites for the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA) and covering the Boston Breakers and Carolina Courage. (2001-2003)
  • Writing for the U.S. Women’s National Team Players Association (USWNTPA) website and running their e-commerce shop … while also doing digital marketing and communications for U.S. Club Soccer, a national youth club soccer organization for U12-U17 boys and girls’ teams.  (2004-2007)
  • Leading the digital efforts for Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) as a member of the league office during the ramp up year and the league’s first two seasons.  (2008-2010)

I spent 12 years at Nike (2011-2022) in digital product management:

  • Helping the Nike App evolve from a concept to a world-class app that drove $3B+ in global demand while scaling from North America to Europe, China, Japan and emerging markets.
  • Obsessing the Nike App and Nike.com's commerce funnel to remove friction, drive conversion and deliver $200m+ in annual incremental demand.
  • Creating engaging digital experiences for runners on the Nike Run Club App, consumers tracking all-day activity on the Nike+ Fuelband App (retired) and athletes of all kinds on NikePlus.com (retired).

The Sports

  • Missed the majority of my kindergarten dodgeball season due to a broken arm in the fall (monkey bars) and a broken leg in the spring (learning to ride a bike).
  • Fan of the Boston Celtics and Boston Red Sox since the late ‘80s.
  • Played on boys’ soccer teams from 3rd-9th grade as I grew up in a one-traffic light town in South Central PA and there were no girls teams at the time.
  • Have followed the USWNT since the mid ‘90s.
  • Scored my high school’s first ever points at the state tournament for girls basketball while coming off the bench as the sixth man.
  • Ran my one and only marathon in 3:39:33 before retiring from running due to the onset of arthritis in my knees.  (Running Hood to Coast did not help.)
  • Favorite hike: The Rim Trail in Dead Horse Point State Park (Utah)
  • Favorite place I’ve kayaked: Aialik Bay near Kenai Fjords National Park (Alaska)
  • Manage six fantasy baseball teams
